HooYu Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how HooYu ("HooYu", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use HooYu's digital keepsake creation tools, photos, stories, dates, places, tags, Shelf, Timeline, card styles, optional AI story polishing, Coins, Apple In-App Purchases, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information We May Collect

1.1 Account Information

If you create an account, we may collect information such as your email address, username or display name, account identifier, authentication information or tokens, and other account information needed to provide the Service.

1.2 Keepsake Content

We may process information you choose to add to a keepsake, including photos and images; titles and categories; stories, notes, and descriptions; dates; place names or location descriptions you choose to enter; tags and organizational information; card-style selections; and keepsake metadata.

1.3 Photo Library and Camera Access

If you choose to add a photo from your device or capture a new image, HooYu may request access to your photo library or camera. These permissions are used to provide the feature you select. You can manage these permissions through your device settings.

1.4 Place Information

HooYu may allow you to enter a place associated with a keepsake. Unless a feature specifically requests device location permission, place information is based on what you choose to type or save. If HooYu later introduces a feature that uses device location, we will request the relevant permission where required.

1.5 AI Story Polishing Data

If you choose to use AI story polishing, HooYu may process the text you select for polishing, the context needed to perform the request, and the generated result. The feature is optional. HooYu may use service providers to perform AI processing, subject to applicable safeguards.

1.6 Purchase and Coin Information

When you purchase Coins through Apple's In-App Purchase system, Apple processes the payment transaction. HooYu may receive information such as product identifier, transaction identifier, purchase status, receipt or verification information, Coin amount, balance changes, and related transaction metadata needed to verify and deliver the purchase. HooYu does not receive your full payment card number from Apple.

1.7 Usage and Technical Information

We may automatically receive technical information such as device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, IP address, network information, app identifiers, crash reports, diagnostic logs, session timestamps, feature interactions, and similar information reasonably necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service.

1.8 Support Communications

If you contact us, we may collect the information in your message, your contact details, attachments you provide, and information reasonably necessary to respond to or investigate your request.

2. How We Use Information

We may use information to create and manage accounts; create, save, display, organize, and retrieve keepsakes; provide Shelf and Timeline organization; apply card styles; provide optional AI story polishing; verify Apple In-App Purchases; credit or spend Coins; show Coin balances; maintain and secure HooYu; detect fraud or payment manipulation; respond to support requests; comply with legal obligations; and protect HooYu and its users.

3. Legal Bases Where Required

Where applicable data protection law requires a legal basis for processing, HooYu may rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests, consent, legal obligations, or other lawful grounds recognized by applicable law.

4. How Information May Be Shared

4.1 Service Providers

We may share information with service providers that help us operate HooYu, such as cloud hosting, storage, authentication, security, crash diagnostics, analytics, customer support, and AI-processing providers. Where required, providers are subject to contractual or legal restrictions regarding their processing of information.

4.2 Apple and In-App Purchases

Apple processes purchases made through the App Store and Apple's In-App Purchase system. HooYu may exchange transaction or receipt information with Apple or related verification services to confirm purchases, prevent fraud, restore eligible transactions, or resolve billing issues.

4.3 Legal, Safety, and Compliance Reasons

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or valid government requests; enforce our Terms; investigate fraud or security incidents; or protect the rights, property, or safety of HooYu or others.

4.4 Business Transfers

If HooYu is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to applicable law and appropriate protections.

5. Personal Keepsake Visibility

HooYu is designed around personal keepsakes. Whether a keepsake is visible to other people depends on the features and sharing controls available in the version of HooYu you use. If HooYu introduces sharing or public-display features, information you choose to share may become visible to the audience you select.

6. AI Processing

When you use AI polishing, the selected text may be sent to systems that generate a suggested rewrite. We process this information to return the requested result, maintain safety and reliability, troubleshoot the feature, and comply with legal obligations where applicable. Do not submit highly sensitive information to AI polishing unless necessary and appropriate.

7. Coins and Transaction Records

HooYu may retain transaction identifiers, purchase verification records, Coin credits, Coin spending records, and balance-related information as reasonably necessary to provide digital purchases, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, and maintain accounting or legal records. Coins are digital items used only within HooYu and do not represent a bank account or cash balance.

8. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the Service, preserving active keepsakes, maintaining account functionality, verifying purchases, preventing fraud, complying with legal obligations, resolving disputes, and maintaining security. Deleted data may remain temporarily in backups or restricted systems until it is overwritten or no longer needed.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No online service or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. For important memories, you should keep independent copies of photos and stories outside HooYu.

10. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on available features and applicable law, you may be able to access, correct, or update account information; edit or delete keepsakes; manage camera and photo-library permissions; choose whether to use AI polishing; request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of certain personal information; object to certain processing; request portability; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint with a competent data-protection authority.

11. Account and Content Deletion

Where account or content deletion functionality is available, you may use the controls provided in HooYu. You may also contact us for assistance. Some information may be retained where legally permitted or required, including transaction records, fraud-prevention records, legal claims, security logs, or information needed to comply with law.

12. Children's Privacy

HooYu is not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age required for online services in a user's jurisdiction where that age is higher. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age without legally valid authorization.

13. International Data Transfers

HooYu and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

14. Third-Party Services

HooYu may rely on independent third-party services, including Apple and technical service providers. Those services may process information under their own privacy policies and terms. This Policy does not govern independent third parties that HooYu does not control.

15. Sensitive Information

Because keepsakes can contain personal memories, avoid adding government identifiers, financial credentials, passwords, medical records, or other highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for creating a keepsake. Photos may also contain background details you did not intend to save, so review media before adding it.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in HooYu, AI processing, payment features, technology, legal requirements, security practices, or business operations. If changes are material, we will provide notice where required by law. The updated Policy will state a new effective date.
